This man and a few companions
Escaped from jail,
Or rather, a prison camp in Siberia.
One of the fellows was called Slav.
A young girl later joined them, too.
They trekked 4000 miles to freedom.
Once they saw a couple of Yeti,
Just stood and observed them for an hour.
Had to withstand cold and hunger.
Nearly dead, they arrived in India,
Where they related their tale of sorrow.
Once they were saved by a gift of salami.
Loved ones learning of them were ecstatic.
Later, his book created quite a buzz.
The name of this mystery person is Slavomir Rawicz. The title of his book is The Long Walk - The true story of a trek to freedom.
Yes, I know this mystery person. I have the book he wrote. Very remarkable achievement! An almost unbelievable feat. I won't spoil it for others by saying his name here.
