He was one of the highest paid.
By a penalty flag he was waylaid.
For the next three years he asked himself why
that flag had to hit him in the right eye.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
He was one of the highest paid players in the NFL at the time, but during one game was accidentally hit in the right eye by a penalty flag weighted with ball bearings. The referee immediately apologized, but this player missed the next three seasons with temporary blindness. Can you identify him? (To see previous mystery persons, just keep clicking the 'previous poem' button) By the way, when I tested this picture a few minutes ago, at least one person thought it was funny. It is not intended to be funny. This was and is a very serious matter. This player sued the NFL for 200 million dollars and reportedly they settled for about 25 million.22 January 2018Clarksburg, Maryland

Eye, yi, yi. I'm not a sports person, so no use of me guessing. Good poem though. Thanks for posting.
