Kalaratri is another manifestation of
Devi Kali -The fearless Goddess!
Dark complexioned
Dark tresses hanging down
Like a thick curtain,
An awesome dark face,
Red eyes filled with anger
Red tongue that hangs down from her mouth.
She wears a necklace of skulls around her neck.
She is the annihilator
And demolisher of everything
That is bad, evil, cruel and dangerous.
She appears as Bhadrakali -
The Goddess of death and destruction,
Darker than the darkness,
Ready to vanquish the ferocious demons.
O Devi! Just as you vanquished all the demons
Chase out all the dark thoughts from my mind,
Of anger, hatred and selfish tendencies;
Make my mind clear and pure like a white crystal.
Navaratri Devi - Kalaratri or Kali does not kill the humans or demons but she kills the bad qualities like dark thoughts, anger, hatred and selfish tendencies. The meaning of the picture of Kali is such which spirituality identifies. You have so brilliantly revealed in last stanza. Beautifully penned. Thank you dear Dr. Geeta madam for sharing this devotional poem with lofty theme.10
