On The Bus Ride Home Poem by Kewayne Wadley

On The Bus Ride Home

They sat in silence at the bus stop
The moments exchanged one for another
brief looks at the ground.
Neither of the two looked in each others direction
Him nor her.
Peopled walked by smugly
faces passed in a blur
in a hurry here or there
Feet scuffed a rock or two in transition
He stared at the side of her head
she pretended not to see
Looking ahead
Still no sign of the bus
Maybe a cab would have been quicker
Perhaps a ride from a friend
He looked off
Waiting patiently
Sighing in a stretch he hit her with his arm
She jerked away
Tugging her purse
Another person walked by and couldn't help but ask
'How long have ya'll been married? '
