Part ' A ' Of September 2017's Showcase … [ Poems (Mostly) From P H Poets, With Links To The Poem Pages And Texts Of ‘ Not-Too-Long ‘- Poems ]

Attention ladies and gentlemen (and those not) ,
here shall rest September's display, on this spot,
a display of poems offered (or not) to me for a showcase,
but if you care not to join in, to me it's NOT a disgrace.

For August's display I had said I might use more than one.....
poem from some poets, but in August that NEVER was done.
So, let me say again: 'might', but it IS really my intention, …..
to highlight the poems of SOME. Please give YOUR attention!

Now a few poets (I think three) have, to me, poems offered.
I promise, to you ‘soon', these and others will be proffered.
In August's showcase only ONE poem was 'offered' to me;
that's besides one of my own..This month the list will be ‘Bri-free'!

(August 21st 2017)

==================================================
In my Poet's Notes to this showcase and/OR in a poem comment left by me
on the showcase's page, I plan to explain how to form the ‘complete link' to each ‘
poem's page on PH, making use of the ‘partial link' I shall supply for each poem.

Below you will find a list of the poems in Part 'A', with the authors' names, 'offered' or 'borrowed', the ‘partial link' to find each poem's page on PH, any listed topic(s) , AND…
1 - the TEXT for a poem which is not-much-longer than 25 lines (at my discretion) . OR …
2 - for poems longer than in #1 (above) , I shall put the first stanza (or equivalent, at my discretion) ,
and you can use the link or other method to find the poem on PH. :)

==================================================

THE POEMS, ETC.

1 - Nate Tulay, author; 'offered'; ‘partial link': /poem/to-diotima/; topic: love

To Diotima - by Nate Tulay

Where are you, why are you so brief?
In your arms my soul awakened to beauty,
your poets' words nourished me,
and in my innermost depth still lies an image of you!

Beautiful creature,
why have you forgotten a child who was everything to you,
you teacher of the Arts, you spirit of the Ages?
Come again, and comfort me against the chaos of my society!

========================================================

2 - M.J. Lemon, author; 'offered'; ‘partial link': /poem/rat-lady/; topics: poverty, real life, urban

Rat Lady - by M.J. Lemon

First stanza only here: [poem is a LITTLE too long for me to place it all on this page]

The woman with
the tattoos on her back
and the rat on her head
walked past
the department store
and the man
asleep on the pavement
and said
That animal!

==================================================
3 - Douglas Scotney, author; 'offered'; partial link: /poem/rat-lady/; topics: belief, charm, pets, wisdom

Wisdom And Belief - by Douglas Scotney

For their loyalty, economy
and sensitivity to rocks coming their way,
a wise one in raggy togs
trains rats as dogs
and bears them on his shoulders.

A well-togged wise one trains dogs.

A believer says, 'Rats, dogs. What the heck,
I'll wear a claw on a chain around my neck.'

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Bri's Note: I didn't plan two ‘rat' poems in a row; it just worked out that way! ! ! ! ;)
=================================================

4 - Savita Tyagi, author; 'offered';
partial link: /poem/random-thought-ix/; topics: life, reflections

Random Thought Ix - by Savita Tyagi

One goes to temple in search of peace
Other goes because he is at peace
Third is there to wash his laundry!

And God said:

I have created a song for each of you
Now you have to sing it all alone
Others are there to join in chorus.

And the Devil said:

Fear me! The perpetual fiend
Ictus malicious
Pernicious to your song.

5 - Eugene Levich, author; 'offered'; partial link: none (I don't find on PH) : topics: none known

White Supremacist - by Eugene Levich

Frazier Glenn Cross Hated Niggers and Kikes
Muslims and Hispanics and the rest of their likes
He was a Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan and
Killing innocent people was his supreme plan.

He went to a Community Center and shot two 'Jews' dead.
But it turned out they were both Methodists instead.
One was an elderly doctor beloved by his patients
The other his young grandson who sang in a church choir
Killing them was the only plan to which Cross could aspire.

He then went to a retirement home
It had a Jewish name, Village Shalom,
[The Village of Peace]
There in the parking lot he shot his third 'Jewish' Victim,
But she happened to be Catholic.
And was visiting her aged mother
As she did every Sunday
The victim was a therapist who aided
Children and their families.
Now her aged mother has lost her own child
Because Frazier Glenn Cross had gone wild.

He shouted 'Heil Hitler! ' from the back of a police car
As they took him away
Frazier Glenn Cross
Frazier Glenn Cross
Frazier Glenn Cross
Paradigm for the cerebral and moral
Supremacy of Whites.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Bri's note: well, Cross may be called a 'white supremacist', but it seems he also is Anti-Semitic, ....AND not too smart! !
===================================================

6 - Long Tooth, author; 'offered'; partial link: /poem/the-school-of-what-s-next/; topics: celebration, love and life

'The School Of What's Next' - by Long Tooth

Though I don't feel that driven OR misdiagnosed,
Still so many past goals, I find lacking in passion,
Though dragons line up (fancy St. George as toast) ,
When the battle gets done, it seems flame's out of fashion.

I can't say why the letdown, post finishing quest,
You would think celebration might now be in order,
Drink beer, put my feet up, at least have a rest,
But I put on my hat, saddle muse, seek new border.

Oh, 'The School of What's Next' is both 'life' and what 'chills, '
For I frequently find I've more questions than answers,
But gist of its leading still manages thrills
(As its leaps and twists, voice poetry of lithe dancers) .

Trusting Grace is 'sufficient, ' is prayer's simple text,
His provision, my faith; my desire just to serve Him,
To bask in His presence, with praise for 'what's next, '
Harmonize with creation in eternal Love hymn.

7 - Rod Mendieta, author; 'offered'; partial link: /poem/minstrel-3/; topics: creativity, poetic expression

MINSTREL - by Rod Mendieta

A dazzled worm peering out of a red apple;
A painted dinosaur grazing on freshly
Dewed grass while a giant meteorite
Looms on rose-coloured Paleolithic skies;
A cellphone melting on the hot pavement
Of a busy street;
Three blind mice leading a parade
Of angry civil servants;
Twelve strokes of the tower bell
Scattering all the pigeons away…
Just another ordinary day
Where the commonplace hopes to be noticed

============================================

8 - John Westlake, author; 'offered'; partial link: /poem/584-the-fate-of-the-sidero/; topics: fantasy

584. The Fate Of The Sidero - by John Westlake

They were said to be the most feared pirates
that ever sailed the seas
inspiring fear wherever their ship The Sidero went
leaving a trail of destruction in their wake

Commanded by Captain Chesed
a man with a heart black as midnight
it is said that he revelled in mindless slaughter
his clothes dyed with the blood of his enemies

There was no quarter given in their attacks
as almost all their victims were slain
only a couple were allowed to survive
to spread the terror of their ordeals

Then one night during a storm
the Sidero was sheltering under a cliff
it collapsed around them creating a cave
trapping them forever in darkness

It took some time for the crew to die
of disease and the injuries sustained
Captain Chesed was said to be the last to fall
his drawn cutlass still in his right hand

The legend is still spoken of by many
although the reign of terror has come to an end
people still picnic on the top of the cliff
completely oblivious to the Sediro buried far below
and her undead crew that now walk the cave
until the ending of the world

Bri's note about upcoming changes in October's [[not September's]] showcase:

Hi, Readers, I plan to finish off September's showcase using the plan I stated in September's introductory notes, above the list of poems. In October I MAY allow up to THREE poems per author, with one poem being printed in full in the showcase and other(s) listed with ONLY the link(s) to the poem(s) page(s) .
The poems may be ones 'offered' to me by the poets or ones I 'borrow' and notify each respective poet of my 'borrowing' in a comment on each 'borrowed' poem's page.
Poems I consider 'very long' I plan to place at the end(s) of my showcase listing(s) . I will probably still have more than one 'Part' to each monthly showcase e.g. Part A, Part B, etc.

=============================================================

9 - Valsa George, author; 'offered'; partial link: /poem/my-epitaph-15/; topics: none given in 2013; they were not asked for then by PH!

My Epitaph - by Valsa George

Below the vault of this moon lit sky
Make a grave and let me lie
In joy I lived and in joy I die
And wish to see no one cry

This you carve on the grave where I lie
'Here is some one, though a small fry
Had a heart as big as a mountain high
Who with songs of love, every heart did tie'

=========================================================

10 - Valsa George, author; 'offered'; partial link: /poem/the-wait-34/;
topics: none available

The Wait - by Valsa George

The sun has long receded out from the sky,
Pallid gloom invades the wintry air,
Morbid silence hangs over,
Memory sleeps like hibernating toads.

The trees are bare with no leaves to array,
The Earth lies shielded in its icy crust,
There is stillness, the stillness of the grave,
Breaking it, a fox is heard howling afar.

Solitary lies he, in his battered shack,
With a run out lantern throwing pale light,
It burns sending spouts of fume,
Like the last breath of the dying soul.

He listens intent for advancing steps,
Of a long awaited friend, sure to come,
To deliver him of his baneful state,
To row him away across the frozen seas.

11 - Bharati Nayak: author; 'offered'; partial link: /poem/flower-vase/;
topics: flower, life

Flower Vase - by Bharati Nayak

I am put on the table
In the corner of your room
I smile my flowers
In different colors.

You keep me
For your room's decor
But do you know
My smile is in flowers
Cut from their branches
The cut is dipped
In the tears of my heart.

How long the flowers
Can smile?
They wilt in sorrow
When you see the pale petals
Throw them into dust bin

12 - Bharati Nayak, author; 'offered'; partial link: /poem/horizon-32/
; topics: love, nature

Horizon - by Bharati Nayak

Horizon
Towards you as I walk on
To get nearer
you go farther

Horizon
You are an illusion
You are infinitely stretching points
Where sky meets earth
And the duet they dance

Horizon
You are the point Where blue mist of sky
And lovely green of earth
Mingle and merry
So close and yet so distant.

13 - Denis Mair, author; 'offered'; partial link: /poem/bait-of-pity/
; topics: nature

Bait Of Pity - Poem by Denis Mair

Earthworm, Oh earthworm!
Poor creature crawling on cement pavement
You are burned by sunrays and can't go back
You came up when dew was in the grass
You and your kind try to crawl everywhere
Earthworm I feel sorry for you
I bend over to pick you up
You still have a little moisture
Like lover's lips in a daydream
I lay you in a patch of damp grass
Let you die with your nose in the dirt
Earthworm you remind me of something
Like all the things that venture
Onto hard, unwelcoming places
Like a song that makes no difference
Earthworm do you know what you are losing?
If you don't, I'm here to know it for you
I lift you into shady grass
I'm not angling for anything
You and your kind ask for little
Yet you serve as muscle for the soil
Earthworm you are not just a symbol
I'm not dangling sympathy in front of anyone
I am on the pavement too

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Bri's Note: I just read a LOT about cement and some about concrete.
I'd say 'cement pavement' is technically incorrect, BUT I understand!
The pavement is probably 'concrete', made by mixing cement, sand, maybe small stones, and definitely water together. After drying, it is 'concrete'.

'dear' Readers,

Once I recover from putting this Part A together [hee-hee], I plan a Part B. Part B will include more 'offered' poems, IF more are 'offered'. It will definitely include some 'borrowed' poems' links, with or without part or all of the text of each poem.

Part B will be listed as a different poem in my PH list of poems.

Thanks for visiting. Thanks, especially, if you also 'offered' one or more poems. AND a special thanks to those who supplied me with (an) accurate link(s) to their poem page(s) .

:) :)

Bri Edwards AKA Brian Edward Whitaker (in 'the real world')

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
my/our showcases have been evolving over more than two years. my thanks go especially to all (the 'few' perhaps?) who have not only read at least some of the poems, but have also left comments for me or other authors on the showcase pages or on the poets' poem pages or in messages sent to poets. AND, of course my very special thanks to those poets who have 'offered' poems or let me 'borrow' them without complaining, and those readers who have commented (perhaps even giving me 'advice') on the showcase as a whole.

Thank you!

Oh! the 'link thing'. to construct the full link in order to reach a poem page put w w w. poem hunter.com.....[[WITHOUT ANY OF THE SPACES I PUT between the letters or words]].....in front of the 'partial link' and then stick the whole thing into the address line below the tabs on your screen. at least that is what i do on this PC.

*****If you care to 'offer' a poem for use in a showcase, please, pleaSE, PLEASE! ! ! ! be sure the poem is in the form you wish it to be presented. I no longer plan to concern myself if a poem has typos or misspellings, etc., though IF 'bad enough' I will probably make a 'Bri's Note' about it after the poem listing! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

ABOUT THE LINKS: there are TWO DOTS in the first part of the link, followed by the 'partial link'. each partial link will begin and end with a /...slash mark. and there are sometimes LOTS of -s.....hyphens in the partial links. it's REALLY not 'that hard' to do it....once you 'get used to it'! ! ! BRI :) I HAVE included detailed instructions in the Poet's Note of the showcase, Part A. Here are the instructions again: to construct the full link in order to reach a poem page put w w w. poem hunter.com.....[[WITHOUT ANY OF THE SPACES I PUT between the letters or words]].....in front of the 'partial link' and then stick the whole thing into the address line below the tabs on your screen. at least that is what i do on this PC. bri :)
