1
A stately pair—
man and his German Shepherd
keeping a good pace—
a missing hind leg
no problem.
2
He hardly walks
but it's not about him—
he attends his dog—
long legs stiff with age
each slow step with pain.
3
Grizzled, stiff-legged
the mostly black Lab
waddles to the ball
then flops down—the man
smiles at his old friend.
4
Like her on the bench
this white-faced dog is content
to sit on its bum—
staying near
panting rhythmically.
5
She kneels scooping poop.
A Hound and Shepherd mix
leashes on the grass
sit up straight right by
panting patiently.
6
Shepherd pup
prances in his twisted leash—
eagerly looks up
to the woman
who holds it.
A nice poem about sensitiveness towards our pets. There are people who are proud of their dogs, about the breed or the beauty of their pet.But it is about people who truly care their dogs.
hey, bharati! thank you for reading and for your comment. i live in a neighborhood with lots of parks and open space where many people walk (which is a rarity in this city built for cars where so many drive everywhere) . and i get to see many people walking their dogs- the people and the dogs so varied! -glen
You can still add to this as you watch from your house people taking their doge to the park... you may write on a poodle or a terrier or a dachshund(my favorite) . All the Best!
Yes, I keep adding as I encounter people with their pooches. I've even changed the title as I've added and as it seemed right. Thanks for commenting, Valsa. -Glen
In old age mostly a dog is the only companion. Though both may have their infirmities, they overlook them for the sake of the other. Children leave their nests early and fly to higher altitudes, leaving aged parents behind!
valsa, you might be interested. i just added a third section to this piece from something i witnessed this morning. -glen
Hey, Valsa! I live in a neighborhood with parks nearby in three directions and lots of people walking their dogs. Men, who can be less sensitive and who I've singled out here, like these touch me with their considerateness. Thank you for your comments. -Glen

I love dogs, pure and simple, no elaboration needed. Your six pictures capture both the dog's unique being, his/her presence as a creature with integrity of being. You don't describe them as cute or doing tricks to entertain us, as if they were our clowns. No, it is their presence in our lives you highlights, sharing our fate, so to speak, with that peculiar patience that dogs display with their companion humans. Dogs also amuse us with their antics, but it is important to recognize their moments of gravitas. Woof. woof, barks Ginger!
Hey, Daniel! I might have already told you I like dogs. So much I wouldn't own one without the space for her/him to run around. My wife prefers cats, so we've had cats. There's truth in the bumper sticker that says dogs have masters, cats have servants. But even cats I've noticed will prefer to be in the room where the person of the house is hanging out... My morning walks have provided lots of opportunity to observe people with their dogs. Thanks for commenting. -Glen
