If I had the power of creation,
Strength borrowed from the essence of the earth,
I would listen to the beat of every heart
And feel the pain of every death and birth.
I'd taste the lonely tears that fall from heaven
To quench the thirsts below that never die;
I'd comprehend the reasons for the suffering
And all the answers to the baffling why.
The desire to create a perfect world
Would lessen as I start to understand
That beauty isn't in the earth's perfection
But in its frailty and will to stand.
