[poem Hunter]

i crouch in the bushes
and wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait…
wait to see a sign of my prey and
i keep my ears alert to listen for the rhyming words…
i wait

quiet now! do you hear
that? do you see
the stanza poking out from the bush? be still
and see

i stalk the jungle. the air
thick with semi colons and question marks
an adverb brushes my face [softly] as i push past a cloud of interjections
screaming in capital letters

STOP! i consumed that exclamation…snatching it from the air-
a resounding echo followed in the silence as
i stealthily tiptoed towards the conspicuous verb and
caught it in my hand:

run.jump.fly.soar! the verb reaches freedom
in a breath; i stand to admire the perfect script. the nouns
tumble into the moist sweet air as i marvel at the: beauty, majesty, thrill and
allure of poem hunting.

    Meridith,
This is great! I can hardly wait to read the rest of your poems. For one so young, you have great depth. I think most of us poets are born with a wisdom and maturity beyond our years. I knew I was different even at 13. Have you read a couple of my poems from my youth?
Anyway, I appreciate your nice comments about Southern Rain. Keep writing, you have the gift and must share it or loose a part of yourself.

    Smiles :) Susan B
