Poetry People - Poem by Megan Ayscue

Black berets
Apples, skulls, quills.
Such are the items of the craft.
Emotional, powerful.
Gothic even.
Poetry people are a funny sort.
Snaps all around
Poetry people are a weird type.
Rising, growing, lifting.
The power of the people.
The boredom of the people.
Hidden in darkness.
Growing in the light.
Poetry people are a creepy sort.
Hamlet, thou are boring.
Romeo, kick Tybalt’s ass.
King Lear needs to get a life.
Shakespeare was a poet.
Shakespeare was a boring dude.
Poetry people are a crazy sort.
Beat those bongoes.
This stuff is powerful.
Oh, yeah, baby, feel the beat.
Feel the rhythym!
Give me a break.
Poetry people are a silly sort.
Don’t get me wrong.
I’m writing poetry.
But look at me.
Am I normal?
Hell no.
I’m a poetry person.
Get over it.
