Promises To Lower Taxes Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Promises To Lower Taxes

"LOLOLOLOL."

Overwhelming are the facts.
But why are they laughing hysterically,
After presenting to claim...
The facts to be revealed,
We can depend on them never to change.
As if they know something,
Much differently...
Than what we've been told.

-Yeah.
Well...
Maybe they are all relieved,
Debating the seriousness of today's issues.
Especially on national TV.
Was for them a stressful experience.-

I didn't even think about that.
Although...
Their laughing so loudly backstage,
Is a bit disrespectful.
I wonder what they find to be so funny?
The facts?
To lie about them.
Or what they've done to ruin our lives.

-There you go...
Always suspicious,
Of those we choose to pick as our leaders.
I was very impressed by the way they forcifully,
Committed themselves to delivering...
Promises to lower taxes.
And restore our quality of life.
Enabling all to become part of the middle class.
With more money to spend on our necessities.
Instead of spending billions,
On their campaigns at our expense.-

And you believed them?

-Why shouldn't I?
What reason would they have to lie to us?
You're the only one here who seems pessimistic.
Everyone else stood on their feet cheering.-
