You didn't walk by...
I hoped you'd try...
As my bonds untie,
I begin to cry...
Wildlife SOS,
Are a success.
I'm an elephant called Raju,
And it's thanks to you,
That a daring rescue,
Made my dream come true.
You helped my plight,
With all your might,
Doing what is right,
In the middle of night.
You teach how to be humane,
With your tireless campaign,
To remove each chain,
So I walk without pain.
You saw my need,
And now I'm freed,
I enjoy piles of mango,
And dance the tango,
On long green grass,
With my new found lass.
Don't be sad when you think of my past,
It's thanks to you I'm free at last.
And for those who doubt my tears,
There is nothing to fear,
From accepting emotion,
Or seeing family devotion.
Only by being kind,
Can you have a happy mind.
..............wow I love this...love the title....love the poem...love the elephant....love the wonderful message....adding to my poem collection...great job with this remarkable write!
Oh Stephen! I'm just thrilled with this poem! Glad I read your poet's note as I was going to recommend you read Rachel's poem of Raju. Both of these are beautiful poems of awareness for all. As a huge lover of all animals the story of Raju effected me in so many different ways. Sadness for all of his years of being captive to the brutality of humans and then utter happiness that he has finally found freedom. Then of course there is the thankfulness to Wildlife SOS for their bravery and daring, but get now I also worry. For I'm not sure how long it will take this beautiful creature to adapt to a life of freedom and if he will prosper. But I will try to concentrate on the happiness and gratitude that one more animal is now free from the horrors of abuse. Thank you for a great poem!

I would like to translate this poem
My legs untie, ...how about 'my legs 2 untie'? or to untie, for you conventional writers. OR leave it be. This poem has some zing. It's a pretty darn good thing. bri :)
Before I edited the first 2/3rds of the poem were as follows: It makes me cry, As I see you try, My legs untie, First not to walk by. You help my plight, With all your might, Doing what is right, In the middle of night. Wildlife SOS, Are a success. I'm an elephant called Raju, And it's thanks to you, That a daring rescue, Made my dream come true. You teach how to be humane, With your tireless campaign, To remove my chain, So I walk without pain. You saw my need, Did the deed, And now I'm freed, You give me feed.
I never was happy with this bit so I've edited the poem. I can't help feeling I'll shorten this poem in the future.
