Refugees Poem by Valsa George

Refugees

Rating: 5.0

From the dark arenas of violence,
From the shackles of oppression,
From a land reeking of the smell of blood
They flee, bloodied and bruised.

These scraps of humanity alienated from their moorings
Have no possessions other than the sky above
And some inches of land to curl up
That they carry with them as they move

Before them, gapes an abyss of emptiness
Disturbing them like existential absurdity
They differ, speaking disparate tongues
Like those heard in the tower of Babel

But they have a single identity
They are all REFUGEES driven by war
They have a single destination
A promised land of nowhere!
…………………………………………
Trotting over dried up dreams
Leaving love to die, identity to dissolve
They let familiar terrains swim past view
With everything slipping out of eye shot

Again, no looking back!
The unknown stretches far ahead
Behind the hills, muffled cries die down
With soundless echoes in the valley of the dead!

A touching poem on Refugees. Only a person who has no home knows the comfort of a home Only a wanderer who walks under the heat of open skies knows the value of a shaded hamlet. But they have a single identity They are all REFUGEES driven by war They have a single destination A promised land of nowhere! Beautifully written Valsa, in the wonderful style of Valsa as Akhtar Sahab says. :) A sure 10+++

Thank you Geeta! Only when we are deprived of something, we begin to count its value....! We all fail to think of the homeless when we mourn over the inconveniences of our own comfortable dwelling

A heart felt poem on the sad predicament of these poor exhausted people. I can only imagine what it may be like to lose my home and everything familiar to me. To flee taking what little I had, to leave behind what I love the most that cannot be taken....so heartbreaking. I'm hoping our country can welcome more refugees and offer them peace in a new safe home here. A resounding ten for an eye-opening reminder to continue to speak for these poor people.

Thank you so much Simone! I appreciate your ability to step into the shoes of these abandoned people and feel deep for them.......! It is so miserable for them to lose everything all of a sudden and move to a destination totally unknown to them where they are not sure if they would be welcomed or not. It is like uprooting a tree to rot in the sun and rain or if luck favors, to be planted in a new soil! This comment shows your sensitivity and compassion!
