Remember Me? - Poem by sarah stites

I was the one that was there
when you were born.
I was there when you
took your first steps.
Every time you fell,
I was there.

I would dust you off, give you hugs and
kisses and set you on your way again.
I was there on your first day of school
and many, many days after.
Whenever you needed me,

I was there.
Remember me?
I was there when others broke
your heart; broke your spirit and
sometimes, they broke you.
I was there to pick up the pieces
and put you back together again.
I was there every time you called
because your life was falling apart.

Remember me?
I was there when you walked down the
aisle to meet your love and live
happily ever after.
I was there when your love and you
departed your separate ways.

I was there when you thought your
life was over, afterwards.
Remember me?
I was there when you were so busy,
that you didn't
have time to even kiss or hug
your children goodnight.
I was there when the world was
crumbling around your feet.
I would hold you.
Whenever someone in your life
left you, or died, or just didn't
want you anymore, I was there.
Remember me?
I would do what I could to make
you laugh and smile.
I would kiss you on the forehead
every night.

I would watch over you while you slept.
I would always wait for you. For when
you needed me.
I love you that much.
Remember me now?
Why is it that the only time you
remember me is when
you need me?
Don't you know who I am any other time?
Remember me?
I'm God.
