Whiling away his time
Crushing dry toast and
Spraying the crumbs
In the porch
Watching the birds
Pecking at them and
Calling their friends
To join in the feast
Truly a delightful way
To start off the day
As a retired Dad
His wife watches
With an irritated look
On her ageing face
She says nothing
But he is sure
She is wondering
Who will clean
Up the place
When he is done
With playing games
On his first day
As a retired Dad.

Personally, I hope that your retired Dad enjoyed many mornings feeding the birds. It is a delightful occupation, after all. Something a bit wistful and poignant about this one.10, of course. Love, Sandra
i could've sworn you were writing about my parents... not a word uttered but so much said....!
This is, indeed, a thought-provoking piece, Sandra. Very nice work.
Workaholic bread-earner once now sees true colour of people around him...
A heartfelt one here my friend...wish to feel those well packed senses that a retired father brings! ! ! Lovely craft!
this is nice and moving one sandra... you seems to have written this one with great emotions... Felt your lines to the core..! ! ! with lots of loves shan
That is the kind of enjoyment retired people want. Really. Even my father used to do so........very good poem, so well structred and so well expressed.
Sad and poignant one Sandra, it reminds me of my granpa i loved to see the smile on his face and i tried my best to make his retired life a happy one-- I personally feel very much obliged to him---for if I am something today I owe it entirely to him lots of love anjali -10
