River Of Tears - Poem by Hazel Hirst
The black cloud of depression raises its ugly head once more
This means I have another struggle to face
One day I know I will eventually win my war
But in the meantime I try to keep it in its place
I got up this morning feeling okay or so I thought
Busied myself with housework, washing and the like
Little did I realise I was about to be caught
Just like a fish that is angling for a bite
Sitting on the step taking a rest from the daily chores
I think about my life as it is at the moment
Why do I feel like crying to the core?
All is well around me why can't I feel content?
This feeling of impending doom is hanging over me waiting to fall
I must not give in I must not give it room
Before it can pounce I'll find a way to make it stall
To stop it spreading its blanket of gloom
Think pleasant thoughts of times gone by and times to come
Count my blessings and create some more
Not winters dark and cold but summers warmed by the sun
That's what makes life worth living for
It will not beat me of that you can be sure
No matter how long it takes months or years
I'll carry on and I'll find a cure
For this depression this river of tears
