Rotten Fruit Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Rotten Fruit

In the garden of your heart
I found a piece of fruit.
Hung low on the vine of your desire.
The side closest to me
Ripe, sweet.
The side furthest away.
Spoilt, green.
Rotten away in the sun.
Blackened with fear.
It withers, spreading to its other side.
Devouring everything sweet.
Everything of value.
Memories of fertile ground
Leftover from past harvest.
Reached over.
Deprived of its color.
Hanging lower than the rest.
In the garden of your heart.
I shift through the dirt
Freeing this tangled desire
Before it corrupts the rest.
Not everything is as sour as it seems.
Here in the garden of your heart
New things can begin.
Soon a new crop will form.
This fear too will pass.
Wilted black. Soon to return
Brand new
