Rough Brushes Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Rough Brushes

Rough brushes.
Protecting to defend truth.
Through thorns that prick,
Implemented purposely on paths...
To warn those honest.
Do not dare to trespass.
Does not prevent,
One fired up with incentive to have.

Rough are those brushes,
Challenged by those known...
Taking risks.
And...
Shown early,
Life to live seeking to avoid it,
Is not life or its reality.
And fear to face,
Somehow and in someway...
Has to one day be embraced.

A mission to accomplish it,
Is not without its obstacles.
The closer one gets,
Naysayers have set traps.
Using gossip to whisper.
And lips as if motorized,
Left on day and night.
Programmed to lick, twist and flap!
Opened eyes and ears teaches that.

A mission to accomplish it,
Takes determination and desire.
With a preparing to cut down,
Bushes rough and tough that brush.
But...
One's faith kept to keep,
Will eliminate that stuff...
By a mind heated to succeed.
And burning with desire,
Not to be defeated.
Or be chased away from the task.
