from "Curious Creatures"
Lunch eaten, the old-ish man sits up in bed
legs beneath the comforter
and reads a British "procedural"
while napping in between.
About six feet away
four feet from the furnace vent
wet eaten then dry to supplement
the old-ish ginger cat snoozes atop a plastic bin
two soft shirts left on its lid
garments that drape him from above.
Through the glass of the French doors
the leafless tree outside is shaking in the wind
and a juniper and pine a block away
are bowing at its mercy.
It's Sunday afternoon
and this rest to the man feels earned
(with a pleasurable dash of feeling "naughty")
after the sweaty yardwork of the last few days.
Besides, it's school spring break
and isn't it supposed to be vacation?
Better yet for the cat
he's never labored under many expectations
and his sure sense of weather informs him
it's not the best time for his type of birding.
May the Cat and its Master enjoy the Sabbath! I like the cosy relationship between man and the animal. Looks and sounds so peaceful! A nice poem. Apologies Glen for not being regular in reading your poems. From Jan 2019 onwards i have been away from PH, on and off for my dance programmes.
No apologies necessary, Geeta. I’m glad you’re able to be so active, and at least you have an excuse. Your kind comments are, as always, appreciated. Be very blessed! -Glen
So both the old man and the cat are enjoying their sabbat! The man has a need for a little rest after his tiresome work and the cat knows that the time is not ideal for beginning work and so it too is relaxing! A poem with meticulous details of the surroundings and a pinch of humor!
as you might guess, valsa, i had fun writing this one. i was still in the bed (for some reason it felt right to describe myself in the third person) when the idea for this one came. though i often find our cat annoying, i do find it charming that he wants to near us—even while keeping his independent space. have a good week! and thank you! -glen
Your accounting of your day of rest held my attention. An enjoyably entertaining piece of writing.
thanks, lorraine. i appreciate you taking time to read and comment—the first one on this poem! and i do believe this is the first time we've " met" at ph, so, i'm glad for this first encounter. all the best be yours! -glen

Glen, i am not able to reply to any comments, as a message appears the moment i reply, that the poet does not wish to have comments. So i have stopped replying to all the comments now. Wishing you a good day,
