SHIRDI SAI BABA
Sai Baba, with three other disciples,
Once discussed among themselves
On the topic ‘How to realize Brahman, '
And under what terms and conditions.
One said, "We must elevate ourselves
Without depending upon others."
The second man said, "Control our minds
With no thoughts that'll finally help us."
The third man said, "The world changes
Too often for one to find out the facts
What is real and what is not real,
As the formless ones remain eternal."
Sai Baba said, "Mere knowledge
For one, is worthless at any stage,
In his failure to do his prescribed duties
And not surrendering to his Guru's feet."
They all went deep into a forest,
When a hunter stood in their midst,
And warned them of the dangers
They were facing with no guidance.
But still they four went ahead,
Without minding hunter's words,
And got stuck up in the middle
Of this dangerous thick jungle.
Somehow they retraced their steps,
And turned back to the starting place,
Where the hunter gave them food,
And advised them for their own good.
When his Guru heard this story,
And he felt too much sorry,
But he hung Baba upside down
Inside a well for five hours then.
He took Baba as his disciple,
And blessed him so well,
That Baba forgot his desires,
Besides his father and mother.
Thus Guru became his guardian,
And an object for his meditation,
Thus he became a true disciple
Of his Guru outside the jungle.

Very nice story about how a guru can be true guide to achieve salvation. Loved it. Thanks for sharing.
