Search Of Truth Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Search Of Truth

Rating: 5.0

Search for Truth as if ‘tis life and death,
Affixed firm like Pole Star keep thine faith,
As if all else on earth
Without it is no worth,
And lo, Truth shall emerge like next breath!

There was a Sufi ascetic called Junoon. A youth once came to him: "I've come in search of truth with a lot of hope. Pray, don't disappoint me.' The ascetic took out a stone from his cloth bag and gave it to the youth. ‘Go find out its worth from the scrap market close by'. Once there, no one showed interest, none was prepared to buy it. At last a man said, 'it looks smooth enough and good. I can use it as a weight stone'. He offered one rupee for it.

Next day the ascetic sent him to the gold-silver market. There he was offered one thousand rupees. Very happy, the youth dashed to the ascetic, ‘we must soon sell it; a fool has offered one thousand rupees. But he was advised not to be in hurry.

‘Go to the precious stones market, but don't sell. Just find out how much they offer.' Ten, twenty, twenty five, one lakh, wow, someone even offered ten lakh rupees.

‘No hurry, I don't even want to sell it, the ascetic told the disappointed youth. You wanted to know truth. It is here in my bag. I can give you right now, but would you recognise its value? Would you appreciate it? You know none except the people in the precious stone market could recognise its worth.'

To realise truth one needs certain madness, and be prepared to pay whatever price, even his life. He should feel, all else is vain of no worth. When he reaches that stage, only then, he'll find, truth is right there. He'll feel in his breath.
