Sleeptalking Poem by Kim Barney

Sleeptalking

"Who's Julie? "Bill's wife asked the other day.
He paused while he thought of what he would say.

He thought that two could play this guessing game,
So he replied, "Where did you get that name? "

But what she said next gave him quite a fright:
"It seems that you talked in your sleep last night."

"You mentioned her name, so I want to know
Just who she is, and how far this will go."

"Well, Dear, " he said (and he could hardly speak) ,
"That's just a horse that I bet on last week."

She seemed to buy it, and said nothing more,
And he thought "Wow! That was too close, for sure! "

Then yesterday she whacked him on the head
And he was wondering what he had said.

As he was lying there on the floor, sprawled,
She glared at him and muttered, "Your horse called! "

Thanks, Wes. Nobody else seems to be reading my stuff anymore. Maybe they haven't discovered that all my new poems are hidden in the poet's notes area!
