from "While Passing Through"/Winter
February.
Early sun warms cold air.
So much bird sound!
Bird tongue to bird tongue
what the news they shout?
Bird sound is one of the most welcome sounds! After the silence of winter, it is so pleasant to hear the chattering of birds announcing the arrival of spring! They might be narrating the stories of their long travel! A beautiful experience!
yes, valsa, welcoming and warming to the soul. i imagined—but had no way of knowing for sure—excited avian conversation about the coming spring. thank you for your uplifting comments. be blessed! -glen
Silence at the beginning of this poem, as the sun's distant warmth contrasts with the cold air. Suddenly I'm aware of the birds' noise; I simply didn't hear it earlier. Now it promises a warmth of feathers huddled together. Are they comminicating or just asserting their presence?
i wondered if they were saying something about spring. but of course until or unless we learn to speak bird, we'll never know for sure... and speaking of spring, the night before last we got our first rain to speak of in over a hundred days, and suddenly all kinds of things are sprouting from the ground, and i noticed a forsythia in bloom while out running an errand. thanks for reading and commenting, daniel. -glen
A cheerfully executed, brightly envisioned Tanka, Glen. It certainly brought a cheer to my afternoon!

hi, bharati! and thanks for your affirming comment. we haven't had much of a winter here, and now as the days grow longer the wind blows and pollens are starting to fly and the bird song seems to increase with the rising temperature. -glen
