from "While Passing Through"/Fall
Crisp air—caw caw caw—
riot of changing colors—
and soon—so soon—
sleek black shapes that ornament
trees otherwise bereft.
A touching expression on Autumn which is the harbinger of Winter has been made adstutely. Falling leaves. Chirping birds, and crisp air are some of the symbols of the Autumn which are nicely presented here. Brief and beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome, Kumarmani. Here the leaves have mostly fallen, but except for brief incursions, the keen and cold edge of winter hasn’t much touched us yet. People have said we’ll be getting signicant snowfall this winter—may it be. Here in this high desert area we need all the moisture we can get. -Glen
Yes, Glen! Autumn has its own character, isnt it? with birds, trees and leaves. An approach of the oncoming winter!
thank you, geeta, for commenting and grasping so well the feeling in this. can you tell i'm a cold wimp? give me warm or hot weather over cold. -glen
It's amazing how the seasons change, such beauty. A great write.

I had to revisit this- - it has everything a Tanka should have! ! ! ! riot of changing colors—sleek black shapes that ornament / trees otherwise bereft. That is awesome writing! ! !
Riot of colors change into sleek black so soon! ! Change of season and change of mood have been depicted effectively. In India crows are all season birds. But their number has declined so much and they are very rarely spotted in cities.
Hi, Bharati! Thank you for reading and commenting. Most of Albuquerque where I live, though a city of about half a million, is spread out and mostly like suburbs with lots of trees for roosting. We mostly see crows in cold weather, but they’re not entirely absent other times. Be well! -Glen
