Soldier Boy Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

Soldier Boy

Rating: 5.0

Slowly I drank my diet Coke to make it last
As I waited for yr message that you were returning
And remaining until further notice
I hoped that another depolyment would never come
But I knew you would become restless
And would leave like the last time
Deciding it was better than arguing with me
Slowly, I drank my Coke
Until the sun seeped into the Earth
And the blueish tone of the moon rose
I knew the message of you coming home
Wasn't arriving today
I guess it will be tomorrow hopefully

This is a masterpiece of a poem and study of real life--every word is well-chosen and placed, every line goes deep into the human situation

I can feel the tension, of waiting and waiting, hoping and hoping and the sadness and frustration as time passes away. this should be Poem of the Day for it's depth and quality.
