Somewhere A Child Will Die. Poem by Ann Beard

Somewhere A Child Will Die.

Rating: 5.0

Somewhere a child will die tonight
said the gentle wind to new born leaves,
as it weaves a lace of filtered sunlight
to plunder shade like a million thieves.

Somewhere a father will die tonight
said a breathless explosion of cloud,
being ushered away from realities sight
of death’s new prize, asleep, head bowed.

somewhere a mother will die tonight
said the juicy raindrops bouncing around
aiming destruction on creatures in flight
filling the forest with splattering sound.

Did they learn enough before tonight,
said voices that swirl in the atmosphere.
the reason for pain what is real, or right
did they find the love that sent them here.

The elements pause in approaching twilight
I think some did, too many were slain
The moon cast its glow on a thoughtful night
they may have to come back again, and again.

A truly lovely poem Ann. A poignant poem woven with the beauty of nature and sadness of loss. The last stanza leaves me in deep thought....10
