Still Mostly Working

Rating: 5.0

Well, the AC works fine in the wintertime,
and the heater works well in the summer.
The radiator leaks and the left wiper squeaks,
but the motor is strong; she's a comer.

That the radio's shot doesn't matter a lot;
I can sing or perhaps be a hummer.
But when she breaks down and I'm ten miles from town,
I just stick out my thumb --- I'm a thumber!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I actually wrote this years ago, and never thought it would ever be entered in a contest. But when the 2023 Poetry Society of Indiana had a category in their contest called 'Ode to First Car', I thought: 'Why not enter this poem just for fun? ' Lo and behold, the judge liked it and it took first place!
