Stonewalling Poem by Practicing Poetess

Stonewalling

Rating: 5.0

We always talked things out
So very well before.
Communication came with ease,
Putting us on the same page.
But now, something's wrong.
Don't know what's going on.
Your silence hurts me more
Than any words ever could.
Because I know you're hurting,
But you won't let me make it right.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Shutting down is a frequent way that men handle conflict. They do it because they don't want to say something that will hurt their partner. But it's an ineffective way to solve problems because the silence itself signals the woman that he's hurting, but she feels powerless.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Men handle personal problems just the way you point out-by shutting down and shutting the other person out, which is nonproductive indeed. So many men do not talk in depth to women. It's much better to be on the same page as a woman.

Men oftentimes cannot stand being bombarded with verbal overload, so they tune out. It's a cue that women would be wise to take. but after each person has had time to 're-group', the original issue still needs to be resolved. It's easier to be on the same page when both parties agree to 'fight fair'! Thank you, Michael, for your accurate and insightful comment!
