Superstition Poem by Darwin Henry Beuning

Superstition

Woke up this morning
Had planned a busy day.
Then, I noticed the calendar,
My face turned gray.

For us Americans
And so many more
Friday the 13th
A day throughout history
"Mankind dreads."

Why, this day
Of ALL days,
Do I have to
Get out of bed?

An entertaining poem, but why in the world were you up writing it at 3: 25 a.m.?

Maryellen, Good morning. Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed my poem! Up early again this morning. I am lucky to get 3 to 5 hours sleep a night. I sleep on my left side and I sometimes hold onto the bed post with my left hand to stay grounded. Otherwise, I DRIFT AWAY.

unlike your buddy Kim's comment, i do not feel a 100th poem merits a congratulations due just to its # on a list. neither would i congratulate on a 2nd or a 200,000th poem. i do (sort of) congratulate poets on each poem i enjoy (enough) , as i think i've done on this one. :) bri

(continued) ..the poem is entertaining. BUT, who in their right mind would get up at 3: 25 am anyway, no matter the date? ? ? ? ! i approve of your scarcity of rhymes. well done. now, no more excuses; GET UP! ! ! it's 1: 06 pm here and i've been up for AT LEAST 2 1/2 hours, not counting multiple nighttime excursions into the bathroom/loo to pee. tee-hee. to MyPoemList. bri ;)

oh! i can now look forward to all the future 13ths! ! my first marriage was started, officially, on a 13th, a Thursday i believe, but it was 1977 [note the two 'lucky 7s'], so i took the chance; it wasn't ALL bad! ha ha. (continued) ...

Hank, very nice! Congratulations for having one hundred poems posted on this site! Who else would have posted a thirteen-line poem on Friday the thirteenth?
