Sometimes pills are like happy dogs.
Swallow them down and they taste like puppy heaven.
Your rear begins to wag, your tongue hangs down
And you suddenly realize that there's nothing better
Than being close to someone you love, to this place called earth.
These pills can be addictive though and no one should
Have more than one or two at a time.
If you overdose on puppy dogs, you are in for trouble!
And here's what to do:
Never, and I mean never, sit down,
never grumble or frown.
Scratch on your chin, take off in a run
use high-pitched notes to sing about fun.
Get down real low, make the back of you high,
then jump in the air till your nose touches sky.
And once you've done this, you must do it again,
til your frown falls down to a slobber-filled grin.
Once the pill passes through, the puppy dogs fall asleep
And you must act like a human again.
But remember that puppy dog pills are powerful
Take heed and care with the bottle
never meant for children under the age of 53.
Beware of side effects and be sure to call the doctor
If you find you've grown a tail…or two.
Can I have some, I'm over 53, I need something to make my tail wag, and like many an old dog, I soon get out of breath! (walkies that is!)
I'll follow your advice - call the doctor If you find you've grown a tail…or two.
forget about abstemiousness with the puppy dog pills! —i want them as a steady diet. hi, jette! hoping this finds you well and friskily slobberingly happily puppyish, glen p.s. i turned seventy the day before yesterday; i'm an official septuagenarian. -g
Wow! As extended metaphors go, this one goes the farthest. I BELIEVE IN THE REALITY OF PUPPY PILLS. I love the sheer audacity of your transformation into a dog, heightened, happy and hilarious. But there's another level here: You made all if this happen by means of words, or more precisely, manipulating words. That's the poet's achievement.
Hahahahahahahahahaha- - You are a delight to read from your serious poetry to your humorous ones. Happy puppy dog pills! ! ! ! ! ! My word, girl, you have such a lovely and lively mind that you catch me up in your world be it a serious one or a humorous one and sometimes an unsettling combination of both [I think that is called complexity! ]. I absolutely love reading you, top poet! 10+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Yes, the body is one's own little puppy and it loves to be taken for a run. When it sees its master getting ready, it will snap out of its drowse and frisk around.

Hahaha! I wonder what kind of pills are these to invite these interesting imaginations. Thanks for sharing.
No pills in particular. I wrote this when I was wishing for a pill that would cure whatever ailed...and imagined how fun it would be to feel like a puppy. Thanks Savita! :)
