Tests In Years To Come
In years to come, who knows how many tests I'll have to face?
On the eve of those tests. let me embrace her bodhisattva feet
The feet of a clay bodhisattva make me love the land even more
If there's a river she can't get across,
I'm willing to swim there for one whole summer
Her clay...is just right for molding a porcelain figure

往后几年，不知要面对多少考验,
我愿临考抱她的菩萨脚.
泥菩萨的脚让我更热爱大地;
如果有她过不了的河,
我愿在那里游一整个夏季.
她的泥，其实是白瓷器的坯.

앞으로 몇년 간 얼마나 시련을 겪어야 할지 모르겠다
나는 고난을 기꺼이 받아들여 그녀의 보살발을 부둥켜 안는다
흙으로 만든 보살의 발이 나로 하여금 더욱 이 땅을 사랑하게 한다
만약 그녀도 건널 수 없는 강이 있다면
나는 그곳에서 여름 내내 수영하기를 원한다
그녀의 진흙이 사실 흰 도자기 소태이다

[I based this short verse on two Chinese sayings: 1) to embrace the Buddha's feet on the eve of a test (meaning that one tries to cram in all the course material or make other preparations at the last minute) : 2) A clay bodhisattva crosses the river...(meaning that the bodhisattva cannot even protect him-or-herself, so how can she save other people? ]

In everyday usage, to EMBRACE THE BUDDHA'S FEET ON THE EVE OF A TEST means waiting until right before an exam, and then trying to cram in all the material...definitely poor preparation strategy. When I change BUDDHA to a female BODHISATTVA, it seems to take on a different meaning.
