Textbook Love Poem by Ann Beard

Textbook Love

Rating: 5.0

Was it textbook love, I am tempted to wonder

That bound us together so long ago.

The flurry of years that haphazardly fell,

to cushion each other like layers of snow.

One year, ten year, a lifetime gone.

Nothing left to try,

No more dreams to outgrow.

We were children that sang to the adult song

bewitched, by the daring of incoming tides.

Infants.....to age with the changes they saw,

Blind, to time passing with inhuman strides.

Love began with a look,

and will end with a sigh.

of contentment, as passion subsides.
