The Big Black Crow Poem by Annette Aitken

The Big Black Crow

Rating: 4.9

The Big Black Crow

He comes along most every day
pecks and scratches on my window pane
wings spread out like doing his dance
this omen of change has visited my house

For crows we know are messengers of death
the bearer of bad news can cause distress
I felt the fear across my back
the scrapes the knocks keep coming back.

The omen of death has come to fruition
the death of a relationship was here in an instant
for lies and betrayal was found online
the omen of death there is no denying.

The big black crow has now disappeared
there's no more pecking or
scratching to hear
my window pane is now as it was
before the crow hath visited us at all.

The sense of forboding gripped me on this one. I really think everything in life is symbolic; some symbols more evident than others, but all things that happen to us are meaningful and there's underlying connections in everything, though we're seldom aware of this. OK enough serious stuff: off to read more of your poems.

Nice poem, sometimes with hindsight it's easy to read messages into old fables but Crows aren't the most endearing of birds.

Gary's right! And maybe the crow was a messenger from your own intuition. I once had an experience like yours at least with respect to a bird. I'll tell you about it sometime. Loved the poem. Very moving.

The sense of doom lurks as your own instinct kicks in that something is not quite right. The crow represents your intuition that the fear you feel is not imaginary but real as you find the truth online. Powerful and beautiful write Annette!
