The Chain - Poem by Jack Fasano

Near the end of the world, when all is almost lost
People begin to look at things in a different light
A person notices what has always been there
But might soon disappear in an instant
Friends are liked together like a chain
If one link breaks, the entire segment is lost
One wrong move can break a link
And therefore can shatter the whole chain
There is one special link that needs extra attention
It needs to be tended to, made stronger, by showing it love
The golden link is the only one that matters
When the golden link is gone, all is lost
Only one rusted link stands on the other side of the gold
That link is me
When the gold link is gone, everything else goes along with it
Leaving the rusted link all alone with nothing to hold on to
The golden link was almost broken
The whole chain was almost lost
The rusted link was almost all alone
Somehow the rusted link was able to save the gold from breaking
The golden link is slowly but steadily realizing the love and dedication the rusted link holds
Maybe one day the rusted link can become gold, but it will take time
Until that day it is nothing more that just a rusted link
It holds onto the gold for dear like, for it has nothing else to turn to
