The Colour Of My Speech Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

The Colour Of My Speech

Rating: 5.0

I will pronounce all words the way I see them
In my accent, will I speak all foreign words!
Some, I will pronounce in the vernacular
Those who dominate us, do the same!
That's just how I sound in speech, normally.
And I don't see it as a way to exercise my freedom
It's just how loud the Africa in me is!

Thats true. I alsi pronounce english in a shona way because that's my mother tongue. I feel though that we Zimbos over try. Our english sounds better than the english...if only we put such effort in governance issues. Shonglish is perfect to get by. Good poem mukoma.
