The Continuing Refrain In My Mind Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

The Continuing Refrain In My Mind

The continuing refrain in my mind
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I thought of a romantic sally
In a tongue foreign to me
Oui, messieur, moi a la carte
To convince PM Justin Trudeau or Mr. David Walmsley of The Globe and Mail
Into giving me a paid opportunity to be published;

Having just come back from the movie, Knives Out,
Which had stellar acting and good direction,
I thought of writing a whodunit
The snag is that I do not possess a morbid or macabre mind
Or a creatively devious mind which can think out and solve murder mysteries;

I must "ruminate" along the lines of a whodunit
Except that it has to be in the future tense
Who will publish and pay me
For I have winning endeavours and even winning ideas
But I don't know the identity of my benefactor
Or the time of the outcome;

I am tired of trying to second guess
What will catch the eye of the tiger, PM Justin Trudeau,
For the man, gentleman which he undoubtedly
Has a reputation for being,
Gives me the slip;

I wait in vain for the day
When the busy man
For he has a country to run
Will deign to look in my direction
And publish and pay me;

Men are hard to catch
Is a maxim I had heard
But it has turned into a lesson, a series,
From the owners of the XY chromosome;

I am on your wish lists, Mr. Trudeau and Mr. Walmsley,
And once in a while, a compliment might be
The norm of the day
But publishing and paying me is a compliment in itself
And I woo this compliment from either of you winners.

Thanks for your honesty. I recognize myself in this, even though the details are different. I cannot help spinning scenarios in which I play the starring role. I think this is honest reckoning ot our own foibles can be an asset... We can laugh at ourselves and sympathize with others.
