The Cost Of Freedom Poem by Eric Cockrell

The Cost Of Freedom

Syria...
violence in the streets...
peaceful protesters
marching for human rights,
equality, and change
being slaughtered
by their own government...

now here...
shadows of Kent State...
common people
pushed to the edge
in the battle for
survival, human dignity,
and hope for a future...

already abandoned
by our own government...

will it take being
killed to get their attention?
will it take dying
to give our children
a chance?

you say it cant happen here!
open your eyes, your ears,
your hearts...
it's already begun!

what is the cost of freedom?

I thought this poem was really good. Especially mentioning Kent State. I had never heard of what happend there until i decided to google what you were talking about. It is disgusting how the events unfolded, although not as serious, it rings the same sombre tune of Tiananmen Square.

Hey Good Buddy...... A fine job of keeping things up front instead of in the rear. Wasn't it truly something to see the freedom fighters so determined. And we all just prayed that they could hold on........ Not enough has ever been done to obliterate the evil that mass's of mankind live under....... But the fires seem to be getting hotter.......... One Day! ! ! ! ! ................ Jim PS....... Always such a reward to read the work of my firey friend.........
