The Forest Of New Beginnings - Poem by Sarah Russell

Through a forest of sadness
With trees made of broken hearts
And rain of depression's tears
You wonder how you ended up here
After being a happy child
But then you realize every dream
Has its own definitive end
You walk
And walk
And observe your surroundings
And realize why you're here
You feel your heart,
Already broken,
Taken from your chest
And you feel the tears you're crying
Being bottled up too
And all the rest of your body
Starts to disintegrate
While you feel the wind
Blowing you away
As you fly
On the wind
Looking back where you stood
You see your soul
Floating there
Not letting go
Then you see a child
Who looks like you
Walk up to it and take it
They put it in their chest
And start to grow
And grow
Until they are you
But you don't understand
Why are they smiling?
Then your vision shifts
So you're looking through their eyes
You feel strange
With happy thoughts
And a heart still intact
And the rain stops
The trees blossom
You go back home
