The Goodbye Poem by Amanda Lukas

The Goodbye

Rating: 5.0

...and if I ever wished for you,
I take it back.
You and I were never meant to be.
I'm not the person you
think I am
and I am not the person you want me to be.
I am simply myself.
I am the girl who lets her laundry pile up
until she's only got one clean shirt left to wear.
The one who'll fall asleep
if you ask her to watch a movie.
I am the one who uses her imagination.
The one who tries not to worry,
because she knows everything
works itself out in the end.
I am the girl who doesn't care
if she gets dirty.
I am the one who laughs
at her own mistakes
and misfortunes (and jokes for that matter) .
I cannot be content
in a relationship with my opposite
because I don't want to be anybody
but myself.
...And I know that I can't make you happy,
because you and I both refuse
to compromise.
