The day casts a long shadow,
Time passes all too slowly.
Scratches on the door, paw prints
Still visible to a bleary eye with the
Occasional fur caught on the leg
Of a chair. Her DNA is in every
Room, her presence lives, her collar
Her lead, her bowl still full with water
Sitting in the kitchen alongside her
Favourite treat. Yes, the days cast
A long shadow. The emptiness so
Profound, the loneliness
Complete.
Even though they are physically not there, the memories of the joy they brought can never be taken away. Nothing more faithful or loyal than a loving pet.
