The king of hockey has died
Like Abba he brought much pride
To his Sweden's countryside
And then to Maple Leafs' ride
Salming led Brynas championship squad
The King was definitely not a fraud
He impressed McNamara The Leafs' scout
To give Inge Hammarstrom the knockout
His NHL debut
Put him in higher view
Borje from the get-go
Leafs slashing Buffalo
Certainly no "chicken Swede"
More like killer rooster breed
Seasoned games with 1148
Total goals and assists so damn great
In ‘77
Thought he'd gone to heaven
Named a First Team All-Star
The King had gone that far
Second Team around
All-Star was his ground
‘75 thru ‘80
Salming was so damn mighty
Ma and pa driving car on the ice
One thousand NHL games for price
Your friend Inge Hammarstrom
So knowing where you came from
Sixteen years with Maple Leafs team
Then one year under Red Wings' seam
In Canada Cup Sweden's sensation
Received extended standing ovation
"Sometimes hockey has no country"
And in this great land of the free
You skated through your chosen destiny
Will remain with us in eternity
LeeAnn, your very positive response to my tribute poem means so very much to me. The Leafs need a few more players like him to regain their dynasty!

Hockey is a wholesome game, demanding great skill. Be it Borje Salming or Dhyan Chand (nicknamed The Hockey Wizard in India) , they will be remembered forever, and forever.
Poet Menon, thank you so very much for your comments. Thanks to you, I researched Chand and was very impressed with what I read about him. His nicknane does him great justice. I agree with you saying that these legends will be remembered FOREVER..
