Hidden at the foot of a mountain range high,
Amid primeval jungle an enchanted lake lies.
A couple of hours walking at least it'll take,
Besieged by leeches and at times a snake.
Through the forest filled with flora strange,
The beauty seen for nought you'll exchange.
The best time is when the dawn is opaque,
Only the streams flowing will ripples make.
Vapours are born in the cool of the dawn,
Fading away when the sun brings the morn.
Soon the woods is astir as life starts their day,
Unseen and only wild cries gives them away.
Trees of all species grow right up to the fringe,
Canopy well spread and sunlight can't impinge.
For forest dwellers that thrives in the shade,
A perfect habitat mother nature have made.
All other wildlife whether of the day or night,
All can be heard whether seen or out of sight.
Birds of all kinds those of the sky, water and trees,
Feed and breed in an environment danger free.
Food is in abundance in the forest and wetlands,
Even for the migrants a stop here is in their plans.
Sweet refrains broken by the odd plaintive call,
The sounds and sights they filled me with awe.
Shimmering shoals of fishes moving with the flow,
Dancing ripples in their wake wherever they go.
Where the streams gushes into the charming lake,
In mesmerising numbers they will hungrily wait.
Knowing that the downpour from the night before,
Will bring them food washed from the forest floor.
But ominous clouds in the far horizon loomed,
This enchanted lake; man's greed will consume.
We are making so many damages to the nature and we may be punished by nature. Scarcity of water and global warming is alarming. A wonderful poem.
Your poem paints a magical lake soon to be threatened and destroyed by man. Hoping man may halt his greed and save what really matters on this planet...10
Great imagery, nice flow..........Nature I saw from your eyes looks wonderful to me now......10.
Loke, you are best in your Nature poetry! The lake nestled between the mountain range and the clump of trees in the forest must be an enchanting sight! Unfortunately there is the premonition that something bad is going to happen to the lake! Enjoyed reading the poem!
