The Past - Poem by Charlene van Eikeren
Times where hard like stone
I saw many beatings before
Cooked food up against the wall
Until, I stood up above it all.
Then came times I didn’t sleep
Afraid for my life and safety
Been hunted down like an animal
Stood eye in eye with his gun.
I cried for freedom, release from this life
But just as everything else
He took the silence away from me
Went away and left me running.
I found a new place
Where I thought to be safe
But how can you run away
From your memories
