The Story Of Wild Roses Poem by Patricia Gale

The Story Of Wild Roses

Rating: 5.0

Charlie O’Doul loved a lass with emerald eyes
Katie McFadden was her name
Ever time Katie would cry
Charlie would wipe her tears and say his verse the same
Now don’t you cry my lassie dear
Cause one day I will turn all these tears to roses
And you shall never fear
For soon you shall see I will purpose

Now Katie love Charlie with a never ending love
She filled her hope chest and waited for the day
No other did she place above
The love of her life she would say

Charlie wanted only the best for his wife
For her to want nothing
For the rest of her life
To make heart always sing
So Charlie traveled far away
To make his fortune for his bride to be
On that ship er’ night he would pray
Let me make a good livin’ so I can send for me Katie

On a darken night the sky sounded and the waves rolled
The ship she tossed about like bottle lost at sea
The lighting crash so they told
And the waves came a crashing as the sailor’s screamed like a banshee
They put up a good fight
But that stormy sea took the ship
And all went down to Davie Jones’s Locker that night
All that was known, is not one survived the trip

Poor Katie swore that she would sail some day
To the place were she lost her love
And jump to be with her Charlie forever so they say
The poor lass even blood swore by the heavens above

But on that night she was to dive and surrender her life
The captain ole’ John Dand
Found her on the edge and saved her from such strife
He took her safely to a new land
But poor Katie’s tears never stopped they only grew were er’ she would go
Across the prairie or’ the mountains her tears fell like rain
Not man nor beast, friend or foe
Knew were she went with her pain

But they say if you travel in the forest deep and far
You will find wild roses all around
Ye might be thinking tis a bit bizarre
But if you look by a big oak just past the stream round the bend
There be a stone on the ground
With only these few words, Katie McFadden
So I guess you could say ole’ Charlie kept his promise
