To Thee I Bow, O Poverty Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

To Thee I Bow, O Poverty

Rating: 5.0

Pursuing thee for long,
Thick and thin, right or wrong,
What not have I achieved?
Alive that never lived,
Man vanished from the world,
Unseen, un-felt, unheard,
O Poverty, sans face,
I bow to thine rare grace,
I can this world well see,
But none notices me!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Great yogis achieve rare perfections (siddhis) . They can often disappear, nobody can see them. A poor indigent man wonders: he too has achieved such feat. He has virtually been morphed from this world. No one ever took notice of him. This is how he addresses Poverty.

A great satire on burning social issue that needs serious introspection....10

You're spot on Dr Swain, and thanks for such liberal rating. Poverty is the root of a lot of evil. Yet, the most indigent among the poor survive, perhaps due to their sense of humour.

A satire to poverty, though we all wish it to vanish from the face of the earth yet we often see it around and we can't blame it either since people are indifferent and they are happy living under it.

Very true, Mohammed Nehal, they seem happy living under abject poverty, perhaps I feel due to their sense of humour. It helps them hang on.
