Touched By The Gods Poem by Ayman Parray

Touched By The Gods

Rating: 5.0

Touched by the gods a fair maiden she was
Great misery or favors her destiny would cause
Walking down the street a prince she did meet
It was love at first sight she was swept off her feet

These were times of great strife the kingdoms were at war
But even in such troubled times her love blossomed like a flower
The prince would stay by her side every day and every hour
Unmindful of worldly matters they would stay in the prince's tower

As time passed by she felt a feeling inside her mild
Soon she discovered that she was with child
Before she could tell the prince, to battle he had left
With promises to return soon an unsigned letter he had kept

A swift victory and an alliance to boast his pride
The prince returned home quickly with a foreign bride
Arrogant of his bloodline and ignorant of his love's plight
He ignored the fair lady when she crossed his sight

And thus it was the fair lady returned to whence she came
With a royal bastard in her womb, full of shame
Walking down memory lane, the same old street
When love had once come to her, swept her off her feet

Beautiful story but with a very tragic ending! You have narrated the story in a lucid style, with soft rhyme and pleasant rhythm. One can go an reading the poem. I really do wish the fair lady's destiny is changed! Ayman, please continue the story and end it happily! This reminds me of the story of Shakuntala who was swept off her feet by King Dushyanta. She too was forgotten by the King. But their love child - Bharat grew up to become a famed Warrior and eventually the King of Bharata Rajya. Fortunately, the story had a happy ending.

Tragic romance... The two seem almost synonyms. This is great storytelling. The flow is good, the rhymes aren't forced. It reads with a sing-song kind of cadence. Best of all the rhymes don't ever detract from the meaning or feel of the narrative, but rather strengthens it. Great work

Written as a true romantic and someone who has had love bite him at least once
