Trust - Poem by Brian Potthast

What’s the use, why should I try?
If I push any farther I’ll lose my mind
I’ve gone as far as I can go
I’ve learned the most I’ll ever know
It seems giving up is the best chance
To leave this place I can’t enhance
The worst seems to come from the best
Bringing them close letting them in
Allowing them to know the secrets hidden
Behind closed doors wanting to be kept
Away from the world where it slept
When let in the walls tumble down
The things kept hidden now show as a crown
What once was a secret now a weakness
To bring the mighty to the ground
All this comes from the softest sound
A simple whisper from those let in
Implodes the trust once stored within.
