Once that first leaf
gently detaches itself
from tree and branch,
and falls, with a slight
hesitating twirl,
to a perfect stillness
on the ground, and
once that happens
the rest can happen,
and the season swells.
The second leaf
drifts on a wing of wind
and twists in flight
to land on a racing
stream. Its adventures
on the water begun,
it quickly abandons
its parent tree and
sibling leaves, content
to lie still on the land.
Daniel, my friend, I suspect poems written about falling leaves number in the millions! Yet you take this topic and make it entirely your own- - fresh, vivid, and with attitude! ! ! ! You are a remarkable writer and I am having so much enjoyment reading the variety of poetry that you have posted- -plus it's kind of like a college course in how-to-write poetry! I keep having that image in my mind- - the slightly hesitating twirl of the first falling leaf- - - then the bold fall of the second leaf onto the stream which takes it on a rattling good adventure leaving his sibling leaves lying in staid silence on the ground just feet from where they lived their lives. I bet you could write a great poem about a garden hose! ! ! ! Do I have to say it? ? ? ? A 10 times a million! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Different choices lead to different results Different results are destined to different fates. Your poem is like a fable with deep meaning. I enjoyed reading it.
Lovely thoughts on falling autumn leaves. One falls close to tree, other takes a flight on wind. How their journey ends can not be known till it ends. Not only this, the poem made me wonder about the journey after death too.We all could have something different in our lap. Some thing open for imagination but beyond our perceptions. It's all in the winds!
This is sublime. A gem of a poem. How beautifully you have put it...the fall of leaves. On a deeper level it might depict a lot of things...letting go, resignation to fate, vagaries of nature, change, etc. One thing leads to another...falling from tree leads to an adventure on the wind, stream, land. I'm absolutely in love with this piece. A perfect 10.
And I love your response, Nosheen. You carried the poem further as only a sensitive reader because she sees something else the poet missed or was hiding earlier that you found. And there can be no higher comment on a poem than to say, I LOVE THIS POEM!
Nature is definitely very amazing. perfect stillness swells with falling of first leaf. The second leaf drifts on a wing of wind and twists in flight. Very interesting autumn poem shared with eagerness of expression. EXCELLENT...10

I admit that is a simple well stated poem. Loved its simplicity. Read mine - In Season - Adeline
