Ugly Truths Poem by Linda Moore

Ugly Truths

Rating: 5.0

Torn apart this soft heart
Ripping pain no one can chart
Empathy's strong hold on me
Lost so manys humanity
Cold, hard, social disgrace
Oh... what of this human race
Ignore the hungry, living in the street
Consume all resources, deplete
Always wanting more, more, more
Send your youngsters off to war
Common threads, untethered
Adrift, alone, hardened, leathered
Where is give, take, compromise
Will it lead to our demise
In a big world one voice is minut
Do not let yours be mute

I don't think the meek, or the gentle of heart, want to inherit the earth. I believe they want peace, workable harmony, courtesy, concern for others etc, and though there is some of this in corners here and there, the notion that one day such conditions will predominate seem utterly hopeless to most of us at the moment.. and yet.. if we passionately feel and believe then we should be doing and saying what we can to help move us in the right direction.... Lone voices crying out might find that out there in the quiet of the night there are many such 'lone voices'.. perhaps if enough good people work at spreading the attitudes that underpin this direct, brief and articulate poem, the ugly truths can be confronted and converted. The biggest barrier of course is presented by the nay-sayers - those who claim that it's a waste of time to dream of and work for a better world. Ugly truths can be engaged with, apathy is a dead weight that drains and stifles energy, effort and good intentions. Keep plugging away 'Linda Farr' and you'll drag a few others along with you. An encouraging and enjoyable read.

Oh you raise that single voice every chance you get. Then we at least will be two who hope this world is not hopeless yet. Thanks
