Ukraine Russia War - As Christmas Is Coming, Invoke Peace... Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Ukraine Russia War - As Christmas Is Coming, Invoke Peace...

War is not a game of toy guns and plastic bullets
where little children pretend to shoot each other;
the war in Ukraine is so gruesome
as so many people and soldiers have been shot down,
as so many more have faced the wrath of shrapnel
while missiles and bombs exploded around them
killing them or injuring them without any gain or advantage.

War in Ukraine keeps moving on recklessly,
it escalates day by day and night by night
with skies getting lighted with fire and not fireworks
as those missiles keep rising and falling
like stars that know no terminal or tarmac.
Is this what has to be the fate of a country
that never imagined a nightmare of destruction
in their simple and humble existence
where they woke up in the morning and went to work
and in the evenings they retired to a goodnight sleep?

Can war now keep shattering their health and peace
so ruggedly, so consistently, so wretchedly
that months have passed and year has stood
the test of time as people keep walking about
and going around their routine though with fretfulness
yet they keep waiting anxiously for the war to stop
but the dread and damage just continues
as new cities keep getting attacked without any warning.

And as the moon keeps silently watching the aftermath
night after night there is no respite from the agony
as families keep missing their homes and unity earnestly;
and as the world keeps watching the tragedies in Ukraine
without any chance or initiative to stop it,
people have nowhere to go or run and hide
when bombs and missiles keep falling so harshly
as the war has taken over its dominance over a dominion
which never believed that death and destruction
would cave in and take away their serenity
and impose gloom and darkness, grief and sufferings.

And as Ukrainians watch their country and homes
getting plummeted by those deadly missiles and drones,
the world keeps praying and hoping the war just ends
as in the winter snow how will people in Ukraine survive
if there is no fuel or electricity to keep them warm;
and while time keeps delaying the chariot of peace,
in that cold winter the Ukrainian families shiver and wait
for the joy of Christmas to return in their hearts.
