School's back in tomorrow!
We're all so sad today.
Summer went too quickly.
One last day to play.
Today let's cram in everything.
Let's swim and then play ball.
There's 12 more hours of vacation left!
Let's try to do it all!
Let's go deep in the woods.
We have to take a hike.
Then we'll go find dirt hills
and jump them with our bike!
The summer may be over
but we've still got today.
Let's kick back and enjoy it
cause they can't take this away!
I remember this feeling. It would actually start about a week before school started, but that last day - yes, it was like life was about to end and you wanted to distill the whole summer's fun into that one last burst of freedom. Thanks for the memories, as they say.
It goes further back than I'd like to admit, but I remember all of this.

Mary, now that you are (by your own admission) getting on in years you will soon find that even weekends 'behave' like this. Also it is easier to comprehend even a long weekend than a summer vacation of nearly three months. I always enjoy 'reminiscing poems'. Best Herbert
